Pilots’ exams postponed
PA Wellington Pilots’ examinations planned for next month have been postponed because candidates can get likely questions under the Official Information Act. The Ministry of Transport’s Civil Aviation Division director, Mr Stuart Mclntyre, said yesterday that the examinations had been delayed until October
to allow the division to prepare new questions. He said the division could not stop the release under the Information Act of questions and answers for previous years’ examinations. The act came into force yesterday. The division used a bank of between 50 and 60 questions, which it rotated for examinations each year.
“We must now produce a bank of questions of such magnitude — for example, about 500 — so that candidates cannot prepare specific questions and answers,” he said. Mr Mclntyre said the division had been aware of the examination problem with the act for the last two or three years.
