Asthmatic attack during fatal flight
PA Wellington A topdressing pilot fatally injured in a crash in Whiteman’s Valley north of Wellington late last year was suffering an acute asthma attack at the time, a Coroner’s Court has been told. The assertion was made in the deposition of a pathologist, Dr Kenneth Thompson, to the Coroner’s Court at Upper Hutt. The Coroner, Mr A. D.
McGregor, said the pathologist’s evidence raised doubts about the medical fitness for flying of Kingsford Claude Divehall, aged 54, whose Fletcher FU24 crashed into a hillside just after 7 p.m. on December 8. A post-mortem examination had shown evidence of previous respiratory problems. The Coroner found Mr Divehall died from multiple injuries suffered in the crash.
