Ski-field open

The Porter Heights skifield opened yesterday for the 1983 season, with its best ever first day snow base of 80cm. It was the only field in Canterbury open yesterday. Both t-bars are operating, including the new Doppelmayr t-bar and the No. 1 bar, which has had its capacity increased by 25 per cent. Chains are required on

the road. The Martini Early Bird slalom and giant slalom skiing events, which were to have been held at Mount Hutt today and tomorrow, have been postponed because of poor weather conditions and lift problems. They will now be contested next week-end, with the programme being unchanged.
