Rain mars tour start
NZPA staff correspondent Portsmouth A sporting declaration by Combined Services considerably enhanced the prospects of a result on the opening day of New Zealand’s cricket tour of England yesterday. The Combined Services captain, Roger MoylanJones, declared his side’s first innings closed at 100 for five to compensate for the 140 minutes of play lost to rain at the start of the two-day match. In reply, New Zealand were 50 for two at stumps and a similar declaration by the captain, Geoff Howarth, could yet produce an exciting finish. Scores:— COMBINED SERVICES First innings: R.
