‘Housing Day’ in Square
The National Council of churches has named today “New Zealand Housing Day,” and a group of Christchurch people will be trying to make the public aware of it.
The group, which has been formed especially to draw public attention to the occasion, will be in Cathedral Square today with a caravan and a display on the housing situation in Christchurch, according to its spokesman, Mr M. McGuire.
Signatures will be collected in the Square for a petition to the Government on the shortage of housing. The petition will be presented to the member of Parliament for Selwyn, Miss Ruth Richardson, and the manager of the Housing Corporation in Christchurch, Mr D. G. P. Cattanach, later in the afternoon.
