Napier wool steady

PA Napier The market for long second-shear wool was slightly easier compared with recent rates, but in sellers’ favour for all other second-shear at the Napier sale yesterday.

Second-shear oddments were firm but erratic on recent rates.

The small offering of fulllength fleece which was generally of poorer quality, was up to 2Vz per cent cheaper. The limited crutchings offering sold unchanged on recent rates except for good, longer lengths which were dearer.

The 13,213 bales of greasy wool offered was less than usual for the final sale of

the season. The second-shear wool was of very good colour, although some lines showed dust. Recent rains had improved yields, a few lines rating as high as 90 per cent.

Lengths were quite good, many lines being in the premium range of 75 to 100 mm and 75 to 125 mm.

Many attractive secondshear lambs’ wool lines of good colour and length were on offer.

Competition was strong from a large bench of buyers, the main strength coming from Eastern Europe, China, the Middle East, and New Zealand carpet mills. There was no activity from the Wool Board.

The adjusted weighted average sale price was 293.97 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 8.9 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight on June 2g to

midnight on August 10. The market indicator was 294 c.
