Boath to play
Allan Boath will play his first match for Christchurch Mogal United since May 15, when it strives for a place in the Adidas Chatham Cup quarter-finals, against Dunedin Technical at English Park on Sunday. The New Zealand captain was injured in South Korea last month, and has missed the club’s two Rothmans League matches since the national competition’s resumption a fortnight ago. However, Boath’s return will not bring about a team reshuffle. He will simply take the place of Grant Turner, his international team-mate, who was sent off in last week-end’s debacle against Manurewa, and is automatically suspended. United will be coached by Terry Mann, in the absence of Terry Conley, who is overseas on business. However, Mr Mann is no stranger to United, and the capabilities of its players. Although he is the team’s
assistant manager, he did not travel south when it hammered Technical, 6-2, in their league confrontation on May 1. “We beat them easily earlier in the season, and there is no reason why the players should not approach the match with confidence,” he said. “As long as they keep in the back of their minds the fact that it is a Cup-tie situation, a one-off match.” Woolston W.M.C., the city’s second Cup survivor, must meet Dunedin City in Dunedin on Sunday. It is a demanding task, but one its coach, Mr Kevin Mulgrew, feels his players have the ability to handle. The other Cup matches on the week-end are: Napier City Rovers v. Rose City, McKee Nelson United v. National Mutual Miramar, Gisborne City v. Wellington City, Mount Maunganui v. Hanimex-North Shore, Manurewa v. Takapuna City and Mount Wellington v. Ellerslie.
