Magellan steps lively in training
By J. J. BOYLE Magellan has found success elusive since the Timaru Six Thousand, run early this season. His connections, and many others, will be hoping that his Washdyke luck will hold good when he returns there for the Timaru Racing Club’s Doncaster Handicap next week.
In his build-up for the Timaru Racing Club’s winter sprint, Magellan showed all his sharp speed on the No. 1 grass at Riccarton yesterday. In the hands of Kevin Morton, he hurried in from the 600 m in 35.85. Elsie was one of the fastest over 800 m with 48s, and Garath Jackson’s pair, In the Glen and Kowhai Gold, came up with 48.85. In the Glen has been nominated for the Welling-
ton winter meeting, but is unlikely to run there if the track is very heavy. Afore Ye and Paddy Speed, both entrants for the Parliamentary at Trentham, worked over a bit of ground yesterday, quickening for the last 800 m. Paddy Speed was home in 52.85. Afore Ye took 54.
