Verbal battle continues

Parliamentary reporter Mrs Ann Hercus (Lab., Lyttelton) yesterday continued a verbal battle with the Minister of Labour, Mr Bolger, over employment policies. She attacked Mr Bolger’s attitude after he criticised her for comments she made on Government employment schemes after she had returned from the United States.

He was “the only Minister of unemployment in the Western world who deliberately refused to allow much needed research on this crucial topic,” she said. Mr Bolger had dismissed her previous comments on the need for research into the effectiveness of Government employment schemes. “This is from the Minister who consistently refuses to allow comprehensive official research into the comparative advantages and limitations of current public and private sector job creation schemes,” she said.

“We therefore have no idea if the taxpayer’s money is being used wisely.”
