Badminton selection
Jane Clarke, one of Canterbury’s most promising badminton players, has been named in three teams to meet the touring England under 23 side next month.
Miss Clarke has been included in the Canterbury squad to play England’s best young players at the Skellerup Hall tomorrow evening; will be in the South Island side to play the tourists the following day in Dunedin; and has been named in the national under 23 side to play the English in Hamilton on July 12. Canterbury’s top two players, Peter Whiting and Alison Ross, will play for both the provincial and the South Island teams, and Geoff Miller, the experienced Railway player, has been included in the Canterbury side for the doubles matches.
Canterbury’s contest will
consist of eight singles, two men’s and women’s doubles, and four mixed doubles matches. The Canterbury team is: Peter Whiting, Graham Sercombe, Prasanna Gulasekharam, Shane Tetai, Geoff Miller, Alison Ross, Jane Clarke, Rosey Stanton and Delwyn Barrett. The South Island team is: Whiting, Nigel and Peter Skelt (Southland), Mike Lindsay (Otago), Miss Ross, Diane Erikson (Oamaru), Miss Clarke and Julie Still (Otago). The national under 23 side is: Kieran Harrison, Richard Kelly, Mark Smith (North Shore), Glen Stewart, Ryan Whittle (Auckland), Marlene Landon (Waikato), Miss Clarke, Colleen Hellyer (Counties), Linda Donnison and Sandra Henare (Auckland).
