PA Auckland A punter who spent $156 was rewarded with the total trifecta pool of $19,730.55 in the Whangarei handicap, the last race at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie yesterday. The man took Whisky Creek to win with the field to run both second and third. Whisky Creek was the thirteenth favourite of the 14 runners. Warrigal lad, 4-3 in the betting ran second and Orphan Boy (12-11) third. Whisky Creek had shown poor form in five earlier starts in this campaign but gained part of his hurdles qualifying ticket on Tuesday. He is prepared at Takanini by Alvin Clark and was ridden by an apprentice, Steve Rackham, who resumed riding yesterday after a 25-day suspension.
