The C2 pacer, Best Dream, which has not raced since early March, looked forward to resume at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday week, with a smart winning run at the Addington trials yesterday. The free-legged son of Lumber Dream and Arahina paced the 2600 m of his ClC2 heat in 3min 25.25, easily the fastest time of the day. Midfield on the outer, Best Dream was taken to the front 1200 m out and ran clear on the home turn. He was easing down at the finish, four lengths in front of Full View, which made ground well from the rear. Stormborn and Hoss fought on at the head of the remainder.
Best Dream, which has hindered his progress at times with tardy beginnings, has won twice at Addington this season, in October and January in mobile start events. He paced his closing 800 m in Imin 2.7 s to win yesterday, the final 400 in 31.35.
Formal Fella, an entrant for the Kowhai Handicap (C 3 at Addington Raceway next week, was clearly superior in a sprint home in the C 3 pacers’ heat. The Smooth Fella colt, rising four, dashed over his final 800 m off the front in 58.45, with the final 400 in 28.4 s to beat Alicante by three lengths and a half. Formal Fella was travelling well at the finish, the full distance taking a slow 3min 44.2 s (2600 m
Scotty Del, which settled handy on the outer, showed dash to beat Isotronic by a length in his Cl-C2 heat, the leaders having the pace on over the final 800 in 59.9 s and the 400 in 29.45.
The ultra-consistent C2 trotter, Game Greg, only three times further back than fifth in 24 starts this term, was untested to win the Cl-C5 trotters’ heat. The Game Pride gelding led throughout, returning 3min 36.2 s (2600 m to win by four lengths from Bossy Boy and Jenover, both of which started from 60m behind.
Karayar (Smooth Fella—
Pamalene colt) and Marrian Rose (Nat Lobell—Local Rose filly) won the 2000 m heats for two-year-olds in 2min 43.7 s and 2min 45.2 s respectively. Results:—
