Guidance to teenagers
Sir,—l am a high school pupil who is horrified by the unruly actions of many of today’s teenagers. However, I am in no way surprised, because it is the adults in positions of responsibility who have allowed the morals of society to sink so low. What basis do I have for such an outrageous criticism you ask? On a recent sports trip two teachers condoned a party where 17 year olds consumed enormous amounts of alcohol. The parent of a friend hosted a party where beer was abundant and then allowed kids to drive home. Finally, today I followed a police car which turned two corners and changed lanes without indicating and constantly travelled over the speed limit. When the people to whom we look for guidance ignore laws which they have helped to create what can you expect from impressionable teenagers? — Yours, etc., CHRISTOPHER BURNETT. June 24, 1983.
