Labour caucus visit to Aust.
Parliamentary reporter The New Zealand Labour Party is trying to strengthen links between its caucus and the caucus of the Australian Labour Party. A group of top-ranking Labour Members of Parliament would visit Canberra later this year, said Mr M. K. Moore (Lab., Papanui) yesterday. It would be the first in a series of regular visits in which the M.P.s would build relationships with their Australian counterparts.
“Such links will pre-empt the kinds of problems — and, indeed, wilful misunderstandings — which have led to the Prime Minister making such a spectacle of himself,” said Mr Moore. The Australian party had "enthusiastically agreed” to a proposal for regular caucus links. The New Zealand party viewed the links as part of its preparation for office, he said. The first visiting group had not been finalised, but they would be senior caucus members.
