Two appeal against cement port decision
Parliament reporter The Oamaru Borough Council and New Zealand Cement Holdings are the only two appellants against the New Zealand Ports Authority decision that the port of Timaru should ship cement from the proposed new works at Weston, and that the port of Oamaru should not be reopened. The Minister of Transport Mr Gair, who is also the Appeal Authority said yesterday that he would soon set a time for the hearing of
the appeals. Before the appeal hearing he would visit Oamaru, Weston, and Timaru to “familiarise myself with the ports in question and the proposed cement works site.” He would be unable to discuss matters relevant to the appeal with any interested party now that appeal procedures were under way, he said. Mr Gair will be in Timaru on July 12, and Oamaru on July 13.
