Motor-cyclist hurt on mercy errand
A young motor-cyclist is still unconscious in the intensive care unit at Christchurch Hospital after an accident involving a horse while he was on an errand of mercy. Garry Pearson, aged in his 20s, of Banks Street, Amberley, was taking his small chihuahua dog to a veterinarian in Christchurch when the accident happened soon after 7 a.m., St John Ambulancemen said. He had been heading south on Marshland Road near Prestons Road when
his machine apparently clipped a wandering horse and veered into an oncoming car. Mr Pearson suffered serious head injuries, His dog, which he had been carrying tucked inside the front of his jersey and jacket, was killed instantly. Ambulancemen found the body of the dog while they were tending Mr Pearson. The motor-cycle and the car were both badly damaged but the horse, which had strayed from a nearby property, did not appear to be injured.
