Plea supported

More than 150 Prebbleton residents last evening supported a resolution urging Meadow Mushrooms, Ltd, not to expand its Prebbleton factory. The resolution, which was passed at a public meeting by about 160 votes to 20, was addressed to both the company and the Paparua County Council. It called on the removal of all composting and fumigating from the Prebbleton site, to comply with a 1977 council decision.

The resolution also asked that all tray handling and associated activities be set in the centre of the site to reduce noise, and that no relaxation from the District Scheme be granted to the company for any site without formal (specified departure) proceedings. The company would, however, be permitted to convert existing composting sheds into growing sheds to allow a limited increase in production at Prebbleton,.
