Limited term trial?
PA Wellington A national trial of the four-term year in secondary schools will not be possible, but regional trials are still likely, according to the Secondary School Boards’ Association. The association has just surveyed 262 schools throughout New Zealand on their support for the proposed change. Of the 155 replies, 81 were in favour of a four-term year. Forty-seven schools favoured a national trial, and 39 a regional trial. “But regulations say that a national trial must have the agreement of all the controlling authorities,” said the board’s national secretary, Mr Gerry Barnard. “We could only, therefore, reaffirm our policy to support regional trials.” Mr Barnard said some secondary schools would probably seek the approval of the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, soon to start a regional trial.
