Rugby referees named
PA Wellington The Australian rugby referee, Dick Byres, will have charge of the first division championship match between Auckland and North Auckland in Whangarei on Sunday week. The N.Z.R.F.U. executive confirmed Mr Byres’ appointment to the match last evening. He will be in New Zealand to referee the third and fourth tests and the Whan-
garei job falls on his weekend off. Referees for the first three Ranfurly Shield matches of the season were also confirmed last night. Trevor McLachlan, of Auckland, will referee North Otago’s challenge on July 20, Keith Lawrence, of Bay of Plenty, will do the Southland game on July 27, and Brian Duffy, of Taranaki, the Mid-Canterbury match on August 3.
