N.Z. may join discussion
NZPA Perth A three-day technology summit meeting involving all Australian states, the Federal Government, and possibly New Zealand will be held in September, said the Australian Federal Science and Technology Minister, Mr Barry Jones. Mr Jones said that 120 people would be invited to attend the talks to be held in Canberra from September 26 to 28. They would include the Prime Minister, Mr Hawke, Federal Ministers of Industry and Commerce, Education and Science and Technology, and state Ministers responsible for technology. The invitation list would include technologically involved unions, financial institutions, big manufacturing companies, and small high-technology enterprises. Universities and colleges of advanced education, the science and technology academies, and professional associations would also be invited to send representatives. Mr Jones said that it was likely the New Zealand Minister of Science would also be invited. The technology summit meeting would seek contributions from people who were looking at directions Australia should take in the next 20 years.
