Knife robbery of taxi-driver
PA Auckland A Mangere mother of six said she was a little scared at the wheel of her taxi on Saturday night. Eighteen hours earlier she had been robbed of $l5O by a young man holding a butcher’s knife. “I didn’t like picking up men. I kept thinking the same thing might happen again,” said the woman, who did not wish to be named. She had to lie on the front seat until the robber made his getaway.
The woman, aged 35, who has been driving a taxi about two years, said she had become accustomed to picking up all sorts of people in south Auckland. “Generally they are very good. Nothing like this had ever happened. He (the robber) was a pleasant man and certainly not the type who you would think would pull a knife." South Auckland police are following up what they termed a strong lead in their hunt for the robber.
