Canoeists win twice

The New Zealannd canoeists gained two significant wins at an international regatta at Duisburg in West Germany at the week-end as they continued their build-up for next month’s world championships in Finland. Alan Thompson won the KI 1000 m and then teamed with lan Ferguson, Geoff Walker and Paul McDonald to win the K 4 1000 m. Ferguson won the silver

medal in the single event. The coach, Ben Hutchings, said that more success is expected on the second day when the New Zealanders compete in the K2 1000 m and 500 m and the K 4 500 m. The New Zealanders began their championships lead-up with two wins at the Nottingham regatta a fortnight ago and race in Copenhagen on July 8, before going to Finland.
