Many roofing products available

There is a wide choice of roofing products available. Most popularly, it includes long-run metal roofing; pressed-metal tiles, either plain dr with decorative stone chips applied; and concrete tiles. Metal roofing now has a much greater share of the domestic market — about 40 per cent, according to the Christchurch sales manager for Fletcher Brownbuilt, Mr Max Faulkner. The increased diversity of profiles has had a lot to do with this rise in popularity, and the availability of precolouring has also given metal roofing a boost. Another advantage is the availability of translucent fibreglass sheets to match various metal profiles. Mr Faulkner says most of the rest of the local domestic market is supplied by concrete and pressed-metal tiles. An experienced home handyman may be successful in doing a re-roofing job, particularly where the same type of product is being used as was there before. In most cases, though, it is best to have a roof put on

by a well-established, professional roofer. Roofing is a physically demanding job, and certainly best left to the professionals when it involves additional structural bracing, a steeply pitched roof, an unusually large surface area, or a home that is more than two storeys high, or has multiple roofs.
