Display of rigs and equipment
A feature of the annual conference of chemical applicators in Christchurch this week will be the display of spraying rigs, vehicles and equipment. The displays will give visiting delegates the opportunity of inspecting the latest advances in the development of spraying equipment. About 30 new vehicles and spraying rigs, including four-wheel drive units which would be suitable for spraying contractors, will be on display tomorrow in the new carpark of the White Heron Travelodge, the venue for the conference, and in a nearby paddock about 50 units used by Canterbury applicators will be parked. Inside the hotel foyer a static display of chemicals, computers, pumps, engines, safety equipment and other gear associated with chemical applicators will run for the four days of the conference. There are almost 160
members of the chemical applicators’ section of the New Zealand Contractors Federation. The president is Mr Don McLennan, of Duntroon, Oamaru, and the vicepresident is Mr Robin Lochhead, Te Araho, Hamilton. Other committee members are Messrs Graham Hide, representing the Canterbury area; Len Smith, Hastings; Brendon Carroll, Wellington; Ron Perano, NelsonMarlborough; Graeme McCristal, Balclutha; and Colin McKenzie, Balfour. Organising the conference has involved two years of work by a committee of local contractors and their wives. The local organising committee was headed by Graham and Jill Hide, of Fernside, and included Bevan and Kathy Mehrtens, of Oxford, Alan and Jill Beauvais, of Ashley, David and Linda Wiltshire, of Lincoln, and was assisted by Barry Kerr, of Rangiora.
