Second win to Xavier

Xavier College had its second win in the schools’ First XV championship on Saturday, taking its chances well to beat Shirley Boys’ High School, 15-12. It was Shirley’s second match in a week, coming after the side’s 10-9 defeat by Christ’s College last Wednesday. On Saturday, Ippei Onishi scored a try for Shirley and Steve Muir kicked a conversion and two penalty goals. Jamie Flynn played a strong half-back’s game in trying conditions for Xavier, John Adair controlled nlav well from first

five-eighths, and Andrew King tackled well at full-back. In the pack, Stephen Tonycliffe and Roland Ah Kuoi played good games. Laurie Seinafo scored two tries for Xavier and Dean McLachlan kicked two conversions and a penalty goal. Christchurch Boys’ High School confirmed its reputation as a strong finisher in its 21-3 win over St Andrew’s College. St Andrew’s led, 3-0, midway through the second half but Boys’ High’s final burst included three converted tries and a dropped goal.
