Solo yachtsman hurt

Mr Jeremy Hall, the Tai Tapu farmer sailing the yacht Brigadoon round the world to raise money for charity, was injured during a storm off Queensland this week. The accident occurred at the Mooloolava marina near Nambour on Wednesday. High winds, an outgoing tide, and a swollen river put pressure on the marina’s

moorings and a berth collapsed, taking several boats with it. The Brigadoon, which was once used by the “Mr Asia” gang to run drugs, was caught by the bowsprit of another vessel. It lost its mizzen mast, which fell on Mr Hall. He stayed with a New Zealand friend in Nambour, Mr Bill Betts, to

recuperate and returned on board yesterday with 40 stitches in the head and leg. Mr Betts said that the Brigadoon suffered some damage but “nothing to be alarmed about.” Repairs would take between two and three weeks. From Nambour Mr Hall will sail north along the Queensland coast.
