‘Roadshow’ comes back
Packed houses are expected for the Christchurch performances of “Roadshow” when it returns to the city on June 30 after a New Zealand tour. Dr Morgan Fahey, chairman of the New Zealand Roadshow Trust, said that public interest in the South Island has been extremely high and that in Invercargill the hall was packed to overflowing for the shows. In Christchurch 15,000 third-formers and fourthformers will see “Roadshow” and a number of evening performances will cater for the public. “Roadshow” has been on tour for almost six months, during which time it has played at 23 venues before about 270,000 people. On average four shows were performed a day. Although “Roadshow” was still $50,000 short, Dr Fahey was confident that funds
coming in over the next few weeks would help cover costs. “After the last show has finished in Christchurch on July 7 we will explore the possibility of an overseas tour and a film,” Dr Fahey said. The trust is considering sending “Roadshow” on tour around New Zealand, and a feature film maybe made for distribution in Europe and America. “The trust is very enthusiastic about exploring these ideas because it can see a vast amount of overseas money coming into the country which could be used to finance ‘Roadshow’ in New Zealand every three years,” Dr Fahey said. He said that one of the great things about “Roadshow” was that most of the children who saw the show discussed it with their parents.
