Four to avoid relegation
Four points from four games is all that the 3ZM Canterbury senior men’s basketball team needs to avoid a promotion-relega-tion series at the end of the season, and this evening at Cowles Stadium, Canterbury will have an excellent chance of moving further away from the danger zone. Canterbury, second from the bottom of the Countrywide league, will play lastplaced Porirua two points separating the teams. Canterbury has six points in the league and needs at least two more wins to be reasonably certain of bypassing a play-off. Earlier in the season, Canterbury had an away win over Porirua, but it must be remembered that the Rams have been beaten in its five games at home. A win and a loss in two games at Wellington last week-end could herald a revival of Canterbury’s good form of last season. If Canterbury can maintain 100 per cent effort in this evening’s game — something lacking in a lot of its matches this season — then a long-overdue home success is clearly possible. The .Canterbury squad is unchanged from last weekend.
