Doll trading on Aust, market

Share prices were steady in dull trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. The all-ordinaries index rose 0.3 points to 606.4; the all-industrials added one point at 745.9; and the allresources fell 0.3 points to 493.9. Base-metal leaders tended to be easier in line with physical markets. CRA at 526 c, Bougainville at 268 c, WMC at 450 c, and Peko at 714 c, were all steady to marginally lower. E.Z. Industries closed 14c down at 602 c. Against the trend, MIM rose 7c to 452 c and Renison rose 5c to 435 c. BHP rose 6c to 820 c. Gold stocks were mixed with GMK up 20c at 1000 c and Central Norseman down 10c at 800 c. Oil and gas issues eased with Santos down 6c at 660 c and Vamgas down 16c at 910 c. Hartogen fell 5c to 185 c. Uranium issues eased. Banks were mixed with ANZ 4c down at 426 c, Westpac steady at 272 c, and National 2c up at 298 c. Retailers were mixed with Coles 7c up at 280 c and Woolworths 2c lower at 198 c. Building industry issues were varied with Boral 5c better at 290 c. Brewers were active with Tooth up 5c at 380 c and CUB 4c higher at 252 c. Coal stocks were mixed with Howard Smith 10c up at 385 c while Umal at 218 c and Oakbridge at 138 c fell 2c.
