Ayrshire conference

The Canterbury branch this week hosted the annual conference of the Ayrshire Cattle Breeders’ Association of New Zealand and organised a full programme for the 170 delegates who attended. A highlight of the programme was the annual sale of Lakeside Ayrshires, sold on behalf of Legg and Co., Leeston, last Tuesday. Another highlight was a three-day field trip of West Coast Ayrshire breeding districts. At a field-day on the property of Mr P. Van der Geest, Cobden, delegates heard an address on the cross-breeding of dairy cows using Ayrshire semen. The annual conference, held at the Canterbury Inn, Christchurch, was opened by the Mayor of Riccarton, Mr R. W. J. Harrington, and also included bus tours to Ellesmere district studs, on Tuesday, and North Canterbury herds, on Wednesday.
