Two bogus collectors
PA Hastings Two women pretending to be Telethon collectors for the Waimarama Surf Lifesaving Club had their act seen through on Wednesday. The man they were talking to was Mr David Poppelwell, the surf club president — and he had never seen them before.
“They were completely bogus. I called the police,” said Mr Poppelwell yesterday. The women have been arrested and bailed to appear on June 28 in the District Court at Hastings charged with false pretence. The $8.57 they had collected will go to Telethon.
