Nuclear weapons
Sir,—The horrors of nuclear war are apparent to those who can read and listen, but sometimes it is all too much to comprehend. However, all this was crystalised for me by Dr K. Hinkling, of the World Confederation of Doctors Opposed to Nuclear Warfare, when he drew a picture of every living creature (not wearing protective glasses) being blinded by the bomb. My mind boggled at the prospect of humans, animals, birds, fish and insects crashing madly around and dying of starvation. Surely Dr Hinkling was speaking the truth when he warned that unless we do something now to ban the bomb, the time will come when the living will envy the dead.—Yours, etc., JOY ASHFORD. June 22, 1983.
