Satisfactory sheep sale at Tekapo
Good quality Merino ewes and lambs were in strong demand at the Tekapo fine wool breeds annual sheep sale on Friday. The sale was considered satisfactory for vendors although auctioneers had difficulty selling some of the poorer lines. The sale was considered to be firmer than last year, partly caused by the good prices gained recently for fine wool. The total yarding was 27.811, comprising mostly Merinos and Halfbreds. The quality was described as good with the stock not showing the effects of the
drought as much as some sheep at ewe fairs in North Canterbury. The best annual draft Merino ewes sold for $36,50 which was $lO up on last year’s sale. However. other lines of poorer quality sold down to $B. Several bf the top lines of Halfbred two-tooth ewes were bought by buyers from Marlborough and Southland. The top price was $34.50. The best Merino lambs sold for $24.50 with average quality lambs selling from $lB to $22. Good Border Leicester-Merino ewe lambs sold from $2O to $27.
