To your health
Vitamins are important to your body. They help you to grow properly and protect you from certain diseases. The name “vitamine" was first used in 1912 to describe the substance found in food that people needed to live. There are 16 (at least) different vitamins but the most important are vitamins A, the B group. C and D. Vitamin A helps you to
grow and stops infections. It is found in milk, eggs, cream and butter. It is also in some vegetables such as carrots, tomatoes and spinach. The B group has about 12 vitamins and these work to keep your nerves and digestive system in good order. Vitamin B can be found in wheatgerm, cereals, nuts, peas, and beans. Citrus fruits, like oranges
and lemons, are a good source of Vitamin c. Tomatoes, new potatoes and leafy vegetables also have this vitamin which builds strong teeth and healthy blood vessels. Vitamin D is needed to form bones and sound muscles and nerves. The body makes its own vitamin D by the action of ultraviolet rays from the sun on the skin.
