Southerners for Ellerslie
Special correspondent Dunedin Joyarty, her stablemate Auditory, and the brilliant Southland mare, The Twinkle, will race at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday. Joyarty and The Twinkle will contest the $60,000 Air New Zealand Stakes, a weight-for-age event over 2000 m. Auditory will have the trans-Tasman, a 2200 m race for class 2 horses as her assignment. “It will be a good test of how they will go the other way round. I will definitely make my mind up about Sydney after that,” Brian Anderton, of Wingatui, the trainer of Joyarty and-Audi-tory, said. Joyarty has been tentatively booked to fly to Sydney with the $150,000 Sydney Cup on April 17 as her mission. Auditory may accompany Joyarty to Sydney. Joyarty easily won the Galaxy Stakes (2200 m at Wingatui last Saturday, with Auditory running on well for second. Hector Anderton has said Powley will not accompany Joyarty to Sydney. A new rider will have to be found for Joyarty on Saturday as Jim Pankhurst will be at Trentham to ride Powley in the 2ZB Mile. Ali Robinson will be offered the mount on Auditory if, as expected, he makes the trip to ride The Twinkle in. the Air New Zealand Stakes. Jim Collett is standing by to ride The Twinkle’s stablemate, The Dimple, at Trentham. The Dimple was an
easy winner at trials on Sunday. Joyarty and Auditory are booked to fly from Christchurch to Auckland on Thursday. Powley,.; Double Mystery and his stablemate, Double Leigh, will be flown from Dunedin to Wellington on Thursday. ’ . t . The Imposter, which is to contest the St Leger at Trentham on Saturday'week, had a comfortable win at the Wingatui trials on Sunday. The leading three-year-old colt, Isle of Man; the Auckland Cup winner, Chimbu; Glamour Bay, and the remarkable veteran, Magistrate, are other entries for the Air New Zealand Stakes.
