Record crowd attends seventieth Kaikoura A. and P. Show
Hot' weather, brought record crowds to Saturday’s Kaikoura Agricultural and, .Pastoral Association’s seventieth annual show. Gate takings reached $1625 and an estimated 1200 to 1300 people attended. For the first time an Appaloosa and western performance horse section was included and it boosted total horse entries to more than 1000. It was encouraging to see. a new section reflecting such strong interest, said the association’s president (Mr M. A. Syme). The over-all horse entries were of good standard and although near drought conditions had affected sheep condition the Romneys were outstanding. An expanded photography section showed impressive work but handicraft entries were not representative of the amount of local talent, said Mr Syme. In the shearing competition a top South Island representative, Steven Dodds, was winner. Shearing entries dropped slightly to 40 from last year's high. Marilyn Thompson of Blenheim was awarded a Royal Agricultural Society Silver Medal for her performance on Dylan as well as taking home champion
