Report on waste for biogas

Wellington reporter The potential for biogas production from selected waste materials in Christchurch will be investigated by the Christchurch firm of Gabites, Porter and •Partners. The work will be done under a research contract for the Trade and Industry Department, in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy. A feasibility report was expected soon, said the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Templeton), which would look at processing wastes through a digester in slurry form to produce methane and carbon dioxide. Methane formed this way had a wide range of potential uses. Waste materials which could be of value in biogas production included certain freezing works and wools scour residues, and garden wastes, he said.
