Obituary Mr M. J. Andrew
A Christchurch businessman, Mr Malcolm James Andrew, died recently. He was 57. Described by a business associate as “a real people’s man,” Mr Andrew was, in 1980, appointed managing director of the Christchurch wholesale grocery merchant firm, Dingwall and Paulger, Ltd. He joined the company, which now controls the 95 Keystores throughout the South Island, as a commercial traveller in the late 19505. Mr Andrew was born in Oamaru and was educated at Waitaki Boys’ High School. After serving overseas as
a radio operator in the Royal New Zealand Navy in World War 11, he returned to Oamaru and married Miss Lauris Martin, of Enfield. As a : deaf man, partly from his period as a radio operator and partly hereditary, Mr Andrew became well known for his contribution to deaf groups in the district. He was also an active supporter of and a former master in the Masonic Lodge in Christchurch. Some 100 members of the lodge were among 500 people who attended a memorial service for Mr Andrew, conducted by his son, Pastor Brian Andrew.
