N.Z. appointment to Canberra

Mr F. N. G. McLean has been appointed Minister (commercial) and senior trade commissioner in Canberra.

Mr McLean joined the Trade and Industry Department in 1961. His most recent post was as the director of the General Industries Directorate.

Mr McLean has taken part in recent negotiations on closer economic relations with Australia.

His work with the department has included import licensing, industrial and regional development, and trade policy. From 1967 to 1972, Mr McLean served as trade commissioner in Brussels. He also served as ' counsellor (commercial) and trade commissioner in Vienna between 1974 and 1979.

Mr McLean succeeds Mr P. E. Donovan and will take up his appointment in March.
