Suspect fish not found
A search of Christchurch supermarket shelves and five days of public warnings have failed to 'find any of the canned salmon, being sought world-wide, after two incidents of salmon-related botulism in Belgium. The Medical Officer of Health in Christchurch, Dr W. A. Malpress, said last evening that there had been
no sign of the suspect fish. “Local-authorities inspectors, including myself, have been watching local shop shelves, but the batches concerned appear to have not come here,” he said. “We are still looking out for the cans. If people are worried that they may have one, they should telephone the Health Department."
Dr Malpress said that it was highly unlikely that these cans would be seen in New Zealand. The public can identify the suspect salmon by checking code numbers on the tins. Any cans bearing the code, Kl 3, in the upper of two lines of code numbers and letters should get in touch with the Health Department.
