New Speaker
Rhodesia’s black majority Parliament at its first working session has chosen a black British-educated industrial relations expert as Speaker, and a former guerrilla trained in Moscow as his deputy. The outgoing Prime Minister (Mr lan Smith) said he hoped that the unopposed election of the Speaker (Mr John Chirambani) would “safeguard the rights of minority groups — people who do not have the strength of the majority behind them. “Meanwhile, a 58-year-old white Rhodesian has been indicted on charges of helping black guerrillas. He is believed to be the first white charged with “aiding and assisting terrorists," a crime that carries the death penalty. —■ Salisbury,
