Shipping News Iran container trade resumes
New Zealand is back in the; shipping business with Iran. The) Blue Star Line has resumed its containier service between the, two countries. The New Zealand Star is the first Biue Star vessel to have called at han since the withdrawal of many shipping services. resulting from the unsettled political situation in that country. Last week, the New Zealand: Star discharged its cargo of New) Zealand and Australian products) in the port of Bandar Shahpour, i took on some southward-bound’ consignments, and cleared its ,berth within 24 hours of arrival. New Zealand cargo ,unloaded) at Bandar Shahpour mainly comprised dairy products and powdered cheese mix. Australian cargo included wool tops, honey, irrigation equipment) and steel componients for bar-) row manufacture. Among the discharged items! at Bandar Shahpour were con-) , tainer-ioads of New Zealand and! ' Australian products off-loaded at i Dubai <in the United Arab Emi- | rates’ by a previous Blue Star] ’vessel, when the situation in l ’lran became unstable earlier in! I the year. The unloaded containers were ; stored by Blue Star Line in its i own special holding and refrigerI ated areas, so as to avoid any ! possibility of spoilage of their contents. At Dubai, Blue Star Line has installed advanced, under-cover, storage and refrigeration facil-' ities. which include independent power generators, power points, and “clip-on” refrigeration units. Mr Graham Lightfoot, general manager of Blue Star Line’s Middle East container sendee, said that the visit of the New Zealand Star to Bandar Shahpour was an encouraging development. Further visits were being
!,scheduled for the New Zealand 11 Star and her sister ship, Aus- ; tralia Star, provided that the i, Iranian situation continues to : improve.
