Mr Rowling’s tour
Sir, — Was it so essential for Mr Rowling, the Leader of the Opposition, to include a black African country, in particular Nigeria, in his “world tour”? Our trade with Nigeria is practically nil. New Zealand has no real interests in that country, so it would appear that, according to a recent report from London, his main interest was to add fuel to the fire of apartheid so recently fuelled by the visit to Nigeria of Mr Richards, of H.A.R.T. Judging by the report from London, Mr Rowling presented the Nigerian point of view’ and apparently made no attempt to defend
the actions of the New Zealand Government. One would expect support for New Zealand from someone being paid as a member of Parliament of New Zealand. Why assist others to blacken the good name of New Zealand? — Yours, etc., R. V. SHAW. April 21, 1979.
