Driving age

Sir. — We are writing to complain about the proposal to raise the age for obtaining a driver’s licence to 18 years. This would mean that when the driver reached 20 he would most likely be drinking and mixing it with driving. He would not have had the three years of experience under parental supervision that he would have had if he had started at 15. Also, young people need to be independent of their parents so that the parents do not have to run them everywhere. — Yours, etc.» VERONICA JOHNSON. MARY-JANE DALY. April 23, 1979.
