New carpet showroom
To display their comprehensive range of carpets to even better advantage, McKenzie and Willis Limited, in Hereford Street, are. redesigning their entire flooring section. Their large third floor area ’will be split up into “intimate settings" — compartments with appropriate furniture and fittings. that will set off the shop’s quality carpets. McKenzie and Willis have been advising and Supplying home-makers
for many years, and now have one of the largest selections of carpets in the city. They rightly feel they are part of the furnishing history of Christchurch. When the firm moved into the Hereford Street premises in the 19305, they took over what had been Queen’s picture theatre, and 'the heavy plaster decoration on the ceiling of the flooring showroom is part of the original decor. The carpet showroom's
new look has been designed by the firm’s own interior decorators — Selwyn White, Jean Pritchard and Hard} - Baird, three members of the staff whose expert services are constantly in demand, and whose taste and expertise are evident in the showroom’s pleasant arrangement. Mr Arthur Fulton, carpet buyer for McKenzie and Willis, will be in charge of the new department.’ Although it is business as usual while the renov-
ations are being carried out, it is expected that the showroom will be completed by the end of May-. The whole area is to be carpeted, and two interesting innovations that will allow customers to see a greater number of carpet samples are the wall of over 100 small swatches of carpet, and the broadloom section where carpets have been trimmed from 2.5 m to allow a wider range to be displayed.
