Women’s hockey
The second round of the senior women's hockey competition was played yesterday and two teams, Carlton and Burnside, had big wins. Results:—
Carlton 8, Linwood Unied 0; Cranmer 2, University 0; Woolston 2, Harewood 0; Burnside 8, Digbys 0. Points: Carlton and Woolston 2. Burnside, Cranmer and Harewood 1. Digby’s and LinwoodUnited J, University 0. Carlton v. Linwood United
Carlton led 4-0 at half-time, with goals from Shirley Haig (2), Lorraine Langen and Maureen Darch. Linwood’s play was unaffected by Carlton’s steady scoring. The inside-left, Lois Surgenor, and centre-forward, Susan Spivey, combined well but their efforts broke down near Carlton’s circle. Carlton scored steadily through the second half, with goals from Mrs Haig. Miss Langan and Miss Darch, and the eighth from the left wing. In the first half the teams were well matched. Play ranged up and down with both teams penetrating the opposing circle, ■
to have their attacks broker down.
Ten minutes before full-time, Woolston was awarded a penaltv stroke, which captain, Chris Mo. Cauley, took successfully. Woo'. ston followed up soon after witi a goal by the right-wing, Suzetu Eastmond.

In the second half, an earh goal from Miss Phillips started a scoring run for her and Miss Alleway, goals being divided al three each.
Cranmer v. University Cranmer scored early and looked set to win easily. The left-wing, Adrienne Wright, pul home a firm shot, but Univers itys defence wa s very solid Cranmer’s forwards passed cnsply and received close sup port from the halves, but thes were unable to penetrate to i scoring position. Early in the second half, Cran. mer s inside-right, June Millen scored from an Incredible angle Scoring opportunities from thes were sparse, until a series corners late in the game lookeg like helping Cranmer’s tall; .
