College council disapproves of ‘Ram’ magazine

> The 1979 edition of “Rim,” the Lincoln College student capping magazine, •came in for criticism at the monthly meeting of the college council on Tuesday. The council was concerned that some parts of the

f magazine had created public . criticism and given the ' college a bad name. ’ In spite of the council’s 5 endeavours to exercise some » form of censorship, the magazine continued to 1 contain “filth for the sake of » filth,” said a council

member, Mr T. D. J. Holderness, He was “shocked” to learn that the police had referred this year’s magazine to the Attorney-General. The principal of the college (Professor J. DStewart) said that although

he thought the magazine to be “no worse than one or two others,” this was no compensation for giving the college a bad public image. It was suggested that the council dissociate itself from the magazine, but this was seen as evading responsibility. It was resolved that, the council “disapprove” of the 1979 “Ram” magazine.

The matter was to be discussed further in committee.
