Drivers dispute simmers

PA Auckland A dispute which upset deliveries of frozen foods this month threatens to flart again because of a communication breakdown between the main negotiating parties. The lingering dispute between the refrigerated, truck drivers and their employers might have been settled at the negotiating table vesterday. A meeting was due to be held then, attended by representatives of the employers and the Drivers’ Federation. But th* meeting was abandoned because 19 federation members in Christchurch were still oq strike. The drivers, employed by Refrigerated Freight Lines, stopped work on April 17, claiming an extra week’s leave to compensate foi nights spent away from home. Ref rigerated-t ruck drivers as a whole went on strike for a month until April 9, but returned to work pend, ing further talks.
