Drug trade in prisons
PA Wellington The Minister of Justice (Mr McLay) yesterday said he was concerned about recent newspaper reports of drug trafficking in prisons, and that he had called for a report from his department.
"The problem is under review and a fuller statement will be made in the next few weeks,” he said.
The department would take firm action against anyone who attempted to introduce drugs into penal institutions.
Mr McLay said that prisoners’ visitors could have their visiting privileges withdrawn if they offended.
