Fraxy picked at Manawatu

In a strong field, the six-year-old, Fraxy, could turn up trumps in the Anzac Metric Mile,, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Awapuni tomorrow. Fraxy produced a line run in the Hawke’s Bay Challenge Stakes on Saturday. He was third, behind Vice Rega] and La Mer, and had he received a clear run in the straight he might easily have come out on top. Fraxy was hampered when Stevo rolled about at the straight entrance.

Before Awapuni Fraxy had run fourth and first in two runs at Awapuni and the six-year-old has never seemed better. He will be major chance.

So will My Binnie, winner of the Evergreen Stakes three starts back. She was second to Regal Band at Hawera and then had no luck in the running when seventh last time at Tauranga. Grey Way continues to look for a good, track. He went two fine races at Awapuni on firm going and if he strikes that kind of track he will be a major chance.

The Feilding Cup winner, Purple Kiwi, looks the pick of those in the second leg, the Brevet Handicap. He came home with a strong run and just won the prize. A good type, he looks to have adapted well to his new staying role. Second Duty continues to run fine races. He has won two of his last four and there was no disgrace in Iris Hawke’s Bay Cup fourth last time out.

The Higgler was having his first recent start when fourth at Waipukurau last time out and he could improve on that run.
